For the first posts I'm going to stick with the simple stuff. Human beings.
They are our customers, whatever your target industry type, so it's very important that we understand humans for our ventures to be successful. All of our teachings in life come from our environment. We live in a very judgemental world & it is easy to cast judgement on others, which can have a negative effect on your personal or business venture, without realising we are doing it.
Throughout the years, I have travelled around the world, meeting individuals from different cultural backgrounds & throughout them travels I've came to understand the 5 main things you do not comment on or judge anyone for, not only in business, but everyday life. Humans interactions can be just as alien sometimes as trying to communicate with a bear, there are some strange individuals out there ready to trip you up, but do not follow suit & remember these principles when dealing with customers from any background.
1 - Integrity - an individuals self respect & their level of understanding of how trustworthy they are. Even after you've been tripped over by 50 people, 1 after another. You need to understand that the next individual you meet is unique. Offending an individual based on previous experiences, can cause that person to lose trust in you, which maybe contrary to your approach towards them. Maybe don't be too trusting, but allow somebody the time to prove you wrong. I've met many people who have referred to previous experiences during conversation and then threw in a comment as 'that is why they don't trust people'. It offended me, I'm very sensitive in my approach to any individual, I've seen a lot of bad in the world, but no way did I deserve to have my integrity offended at any point. You can give the benefit of the doubt a couple of times, but if they aren't open to the fact of letting a trust be built without their repeated attempts to question your sense of self, walk away from these people. This is important for sales, not everyone is the same & I would advise you treat every individual based on your experience with that person and not on experiences with others. If you make a mistake with this in life, take responsibility as the response from the individual may be positive too, it can only be positive towards you that you are able to restore another's integrity which will in turn boost their view of how trustworthy you are.
2 - Gender - masculinity, femininity or gender status - having an idea in your mind that a human is any different for whatever their gender status is, is narrow minded. Sexual discrimination comes in all forms. For example purposes only please review the following carefully, I intend no offence to any reader. A male telling a female that they 'belong in a kitchen' or having a belief that 'a female is any less capable of a task than a male', is known as sexual discrimination. It is as verbally abusive as racial discrimination. Females, who believes males should possess certain traits are equally as bad, the term 'man up' is sexual discrimination. It is a form of verbal & psychological abuse which in society is known as bullying. The thought that an individual who identifies themselves as a different gender status other than male or female, is 'weird' or 'unnatural' again comes under sexual discrimination. We are all humans, we all possess our own minds to be how we want to be & opening up your mind to this fact again, will more than definitely increase your mental attractiveness & sales ability by way of not discriminating an individual. Humans are our customers and there is no major difference in the thought processes of humans, that can be based on gender status.
3 - Appearance - all aspects including size of features & colour of features i.e like skin, hair colour, ethical or cultural appearances etc - discrimination is discrimination. There is huge controversy in the United Kingdom on racial discrimination, but that it not all that discrimination is limited to and is not more, nor is it less important than discrimination of other kinds. Judging an individual because you find them unattractive is a very unattractive trait in itself - be open to all hearts & minds & the benefits of such openness will speak for themselves.
4 - Intelligence - The human race is super intelligent, maybe not all individuals have common sense, but assuming an individual is incapable rather than uneducated, is an ignorant trait. Never question a humans intelligence, embrace it & perhaps teaching them new ideas or thoughts will pay dividends in your personal and business life. No human on the planet goes a week without making a mistake. If they believe they do, they probably need to refer back to their own intelligence status before judging others. If we can all accept we are 20% wrong, 100% of the time, then we can learn to allow that tolerance for others, without the need to bolster our confidence by way of making another feel silly. I like to teach people, but I have found ways to teach without causing offence. Remember most people like to learn to, but how you portray what you are teaching can equally offend if you don't word it correctly.
5 - Sexuality - respect all sexualities. There are things all humans do not understand about others sexual preference, the truth is we do not need to. Each and every human has their own right to be what they want to be & see others how they want to see them. Respect your own status & respect others.
Remember in all of this, discrimination is discrimination. No level of discrimination is any less offensive than others, it all depends on how the other person takes it, so if you can't treat humans like humans, don't open your mouth.
